Landcraft Environments Ltd. initially began in 1982 as a specialized design/build landscape firm, which emphasized outstanding seasonal color in the form of annual plantings, spring bulbs, and fall/winter holiday plantings. At that time we were very interested in using unusual and exotic plant material in our designs, despite limited assortment and availability. Thus with “necessity being the mother of invention”, we began to grow some of these specialty plants (from seed) for our clients as well as for our own gardens. It was at this point that the epiphany struck: this “growing” thing seems to be more fun and provides a better lifestyle than designing and installing gardens.
So in 1992 the move was made and the gentleman's farm was purchased. We started with one 30 x 100 ft. greenhouse and have increased in size every year since. Now with about 4 acres of greenhouse space and outdoor growing areas, we supply hundreds of thousands of plants to garden centers, landscape designers, botanical gardens and public parks throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
We grow tropicals, tender perennials and unusual annuals in addition to a few fairly common annuals. All of our plants thrive in our hot, humid summers and many perform well into the autumn months; adding an incredible amount of diversity to the garden palette throughout the growing season. Many of our selections have multiple qualities; grown not just for their blossoms, but also for their ability to add structure, foliage color and interesting textures to container plantings and garden beds alike. Most of our plant material is intended for spring and early summer sales- which, depending on the variety, is ready anywhere from late April to early June. Be sure to take a look at our selection of beautiful moss hanging baskets and fiber pot containers as well: available around late May and early June. To extend the season, we also grow a full line of fall plants and combination planters/baskets, available from mid-September up until November. For these chillier months, we offer the usual pansies and ornamental kale along with some interesting, cool-season tender perennials and some autumn-performing hardy perennials.
We have seen a tremendous increase in the use of exotic and tropical plants among gardeners of all stripes over the years, and our aim is to remain at the forefront of this trend and introduce new and exciting plants every year. We make it our business to constantly seek out and evaluate new cultivars from all over the world, so that we may consistently provide the most unique and best quality plant material to our customers.
Our website is an important tool for gathering information and getting design ideas, and we hope you enjoy it.
