A striking selection of the hardy Beaked Yucca grown for its exceptionally blue, narrow foliage. Hundreds of stiff, powder-blue leaves form a dense, almost perfectly symmetrical sphere atop a slowly developing trunk, giving the plant a wonderfully architectural presence. ‘Super Blue’ makes an outstanding specimen in a large container or a dramatic focal point in the landscape. Grow in full sun and exceptionally well-drained soil. Once established, it is very drought-tolerant and performs best when kept on the dry side, particularly during winter. Mature plants can eventually reach 8–12' or more, although they are quite slow growing. Hardy to approximately Zone 6b with excellent drainage. We have had them in the garden for over 30 years with no protection, best to dig a large, deep planting hole and fill the bottom 1/3 with gravel, then backfill with a sandy topsoil mix. A little bit of the desert—and a whole lot of architecture.
